From The Editor August 2017

To a Dhakait with a smartphone, the pre and post Uber-era is not the same. We are not assuming that all the smartphone users of the capital are indulging in pressing some virtual keys in their touch screened phones and availing a car service with a chauffeur at their doorsteps, but ‘the number’ is obviously significant enough. Because, the able private mode of vehicle service seekers have long been pissed with the piecemeal taxi service that Dhaka offers.

On this issue of Fintech, we have focused on the Uber ‘saga’ in Dhaka. We shed light on why the BRTA termed it illegal within three days of its launching, and, not surprisingly backtracked from its hard line within another three days. We also analyzed the challenges of making a ride-sharing service like Uber legal. We hope that you will have an ‘informative ride’ on this matter through our cover story.

In our in-depth-interview sections-which we consider as our magazine’s one of the mainstay-we brought you insights from personalities like Syed Abu Naser Bukhtear-who has been a banking

legend for years in Bangladesh. Marketing maestro Kazi Monirul Kabir and Prabeer Sarkar- the Kasperesky man gave Fintech readers hacks and facts about the world of marketing and IT security. Nizam Chowdhury, Chairman of NRB Global Bank and RQM Forkan, MD of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited (BCBL) talked about the challenges and promises prevailing in the present banking sector.

In our regular sections, we brought you Chris Skinner’s latest thought on fintech, informative pieces on some of the newest trends in the world of technologies and a movie review.

Have a happy ride with this month’s issue.
