From The Editor February 2019

Dear readers,

One of the best things about technology is that it is capable of bringing about paradigm shift. That is why technological advancements give us hope that some of the most pressing problems of today might become solvable through tech.

Fintech is certainly helping create new tools to mitigate financial inequalities. And there just might be that paradigm shift lurking behind some fresh idea, that will finally create a better world.

We look at the latest development in the Bangladesh Bank cyber heist. Bangladesh government is moving a legal case in the United States against Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) in the Philippines.

Bangladesh Bank says it had feared being challenged on it legal standing, as jurisdiction questions will be raised. But its lawyers said they ave prepared for that.

Regardless of merit, adjudication process provides clarity. We hope there will be answers to many unknown questions from this legal case.

At the same time the government should respect the people’s right to more transparency and release the probe report on this biggest robbery in history of which Bangladesh has been a victim.

In our interviews we talk to movers and shakers of this industry. Our regular features look at what’s going on in the fintech sector at home and globally.

Here’s wishing you a reflective and joyful International Mother’s Language day this month.
