GP LAUNCHES CO-BRANDED 4G ENABLED SMARTPHONES

Grameenphone introduced two 4G smartphones on the eve of the launching of 4G services, as soon as it received the license. The co-branded smartphones were introduced through an unveiling ceremony at a city hotel on February 18.

The two co-branded smartphones, WE T1 and Micromax Canvas 1, were formally introduced by Brigadier General Md Nasim Parvez, Director General, Spectrum Management, BTRC, who was present as the chief guest.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Grameenphone CEO Michael Foley said, “Our 4G journey starts when we have the license in hand, and so does the journey for many of our valued customers. Grameenphone strives to give its customers the best experience on the best technology and product. It is our intention to provide the best 4G experience for our customers on the most affordable handsets. 4G can be a game changer for many data users and for customers to get the best experience on our network they will need to have the right smartphone in their hands.”

Deputy CEO and CMO Yasir Azman, the co-founder of Micromax Informatics Ltd Vikas Jain, and the managing director of Aamra Holdings Ltd Syed Farhad Ahmed were also present during the event.

Biding Grameenphone congratulations Micromax and Aamra Holdings for introducing such devices to the market, Md. Nasim Parvez expressed hopes that the two devices would make the 4G handsets more affordable for the general people.

Yasir Azman, Grameenphone CEO and CMO, expressed satisfaction in releasing the first-ever cobranded 4G smartphones from Grameenphone and reiterated that the company had been working strongly with device manufacturers to set up great value proposition devices that provide an exceptional experience for buyers.

“In the last two years we have introduced seven 3G smartphones in four phases that have made access to 3G data service affordable. We aspire to do the same today with our first co-branded 4G smartphones,” said Azman.

These two phones with the introduction of 4G, will perform with full HD video streaming, crystal clear video calling, super-fast downloading, smooth music streaming and buffer free live TV. 4G enabled smartphones will be a fundamental element towards ensuring quality 4G performance and service delivery with the launch of 4G within the next few days.

Coming with a glass finished design, 5 inch HD IPS display and 2.5D curved glass, WE T1 is the most affordable 4G smartphone available yet. It has 1.3 GHz Quad core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM. Both rear and selfie cameras are 5 MP BSI (back side illumination) to be able to produce better quality pictures even in low light. The phone has an energy efficient battery of 2200 mAh. WE T1 customer will enjoy 50GB free WE cloud storage with this smartphone. WE T1 will be available in all GP exclusive sales points with two color variants.

Micromax Canvas-1comes with a GP logo embossed in high glaze finished design back shell. The 5 inch HD IPS In-Cell Display in 2.5D curved glass provides bright images in sunlight. It has 2GB DDR3 RAM and 16GB ROM and 1.3 GHz Quad core processor.

The phone has energy efficient 2500 mAh battery. Micromax Canvas 1 has 8MP rear and 5 MP selfie cameras with autofocus and LED Flash and 85-degree wide angle lenses and HDR contrast balance. The camera brings intelligent features like ‘face beauty’, ‘age detection’, watermark, time lapse etc. The smartphone will be available in Chrome Black color only from all GP exclusive sales points.

Both of the 4G smartphones are powered with Android 7.0 OS. GP customers who will register the smartphone on the GP network will get 4GB free internet, 50 minutes of talk time and 1 GB internet for Tk29. The bundle offer can be availed a maximum of 12 times in 6 months. The validity for the data and voice will be 7 days.

Customers will also get a 15 days ‘Early Life Failure’ facility with one-year warranty from respective brand’s service centers. ■
