Dear readers,
A lot has happened over the past year. Immense initiatives have been announced and taken in the development sector, including the ICT sector, which is particularly relevant to us. The year ended with the biggest ICT event ‘Digital World 2017’. We take you in the thick of it in our cover story. The event generated more public interest than usual because of the appearance of the AI robot Sophia. While it has quantifiable benefit, as its detractors correctly and somewhat vainly pointed out, it is the kind of outward manifestation of science that inspires young people. The only chagrin should be that there should have been at least one high quality interview with the robot. However, we do bring to you very detailed coverage of some of the most exciting sessions from Digital World.
Bangladesh was proud to host the APICTA Awards 2017. Find out about the winners and the exciting innovations that this platform brings forth in our report on the four-day event. In addition to that we continue to cover important local events. There is a special feature story on how a tech focused company is promising to change the face of the real estate industry as we know it. Other features include a look at the Bangladesh Bank heist, a much spirited account from a Bangladeshi computer engineer working in the US and why he thinks he should be back to the country and many more.
As usual, we talk to some of the leading figures and people representing leading organisations in the IT sector, both in the country and world wide. Read our interview with the executive director of Lenovo India Rajesh Thadani, a conversation with Sandeep Gupta, the regional general manager of HMD Global for Thailand and Emerging Asia, and a very in-depth conversation with the CCO of SSL Wireless, Ashish Chakraborty. A number of other interviews cover a wide range of topics, bringing to you a mixed bag of contents.
Here’s wishing you a happy 2018.
