US based global management firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in collaboration with the government of Bangladesh launched “Strategic CEO Outreach Program (COP)” to enhance investment and create employment provisions in the ICT sector.
“The surging consumer market with having fastest growing Middle to Affluent Class (MAC) population, might be the doorway to the digital world”, said the State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak while inaugurating the program organised by the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) project under the Department of Information and Communication Technology at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel of the capital on July 31, 2017.
In view of global demand, he said the IT sector is specially designed for the Internet of Things (IoT), Analytics, Social Media, Cloud and Mobile Technology which really makes the country placed to be the gateway to digital Bangladesh.
Palak also commented that 100 million workforce can help the Digital Bangladesh Vision developed or for the expansion of the ICT sector following the instructions of Prime Minister’s Information and Communication Technology Adviser Sajib Wazed Joy.
He added, “Policies and laws have been legislated, tax exemption facilities have been provided for IT industry and its infrastructure, IT parks are being settled, power generation has been amplified and high-speed internet has already reached up to union level around the country”.
Attending at the program Hans Paul Barker Ballen, Global Chairman of Boston Consulting Group (BCG), hoped that Bangladesh would be the next destination for information and communication technology (ICT).
ICT Secretary Subir Kishore Chowdhury said, “The business development activity and matchmaking program among IT companies of local and foreign under COP will help bring investment and generate employment breaks.”
The whole actions under COP might contribute to investment and breed revenue in the ICT sector, said he.
Besides, Managing Director of Microsoft Bangladesh Sonia Bashir Kabir, BASIS President Mustafa Zabbar including Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Swapan Kumar Sarker, LICT Project Director Md. Rezaul Karim, Partner and Managing Director of BCG Zarif Munir also attended the function with other business leaders.
The function ended with a discussion session titled “Shifting Gears: Accelerating Bangladesh’s ICT Growth Cycle” that was organized by LICT Project and BCG to mark the launching program.
