Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) is a leading business organization in IT sector of the country. BASIS started its journey since 1997 and more than a thousand members are working for it. This huge number of members are playing a significant role in implementing vision 2021 of the government. At the same time, they are earning significant amount of foreign currency by exporting software and IT based services and these services are contributing in the country’s GDP.
BASIS has been working for the welfare of its members from the very beginning. In continuation of this welfare, BASIS is going to start ‘BASIS Membership Smartcard’ so that the members can get all the services like medical service, daily essentials etc. BASIS members will get the special discount in different companies including hospital, hotel, restaurant and airport.
The inaugural program of this new smart card was held in Lakeshore Hotel of the capital on May 24, 2017. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak presided over the program as the chief guest and inaugurated the smart card. BASIS president Mustafa Jabbar was present as a special guest with the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry Imran Ahmed, MP. BASIS Director Mustafizur Rahman Sohel also spoke at the event.
Attending the grand program Palak said, “Once there was no ICT sector. We stood by agro-based economy. But the present government has declared to grow IT based development of Bangladesh by 2041. Our government will not do business rather create the atmosphere for doing business in which businessmen will keep the economic wheel of the country dynamic. He believes, BASIS will one day be a powerful organization like BGMEA”.
On the occasion Imran Ahmed said, “It is the contribution of BASIS members for progressing IT sector. Every support is being given from the government and this will continue in future as well. We hope, this sector will keep advancing through the joint cooperation of public and private sector”.
BASIS President Mustafa Jabbar said that it is a specialized service for BASIS members. “They have been demanding to have this kind of smart card or service for a long time. We are glad to provide this card. Although 15 organizations are apparently negotiated, more will be added in the future,” he said.
BASIS junior Vice President Russell T Ahmed, Vice President M Rashidul Hasan, Director Uttam Kumar Paul, Sonia Bashir Kabir, Riyad S A Hossain were present at the program including the representatives of partnership organizations. Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited patronized the program.
