Information Minister Hasan Mahmud said, legal actions will be taken against illegal and immoral web contents by the government.
The minister made this remark while talking to reporters at the secretariat on Wednesday over a report titled “objectionable scenes in some local web series.”
He said, “Vicious or pornographic contents should not be uploaded at any cost because it’s a blameworthy offence under the Pornography Control Act”.
Besides, the uploaders may face arrest and get up to 10-year imprisonment, said Hasan Mahmud.
“The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has already been informed that the contents were uploaded by two subsidiary companies of GP and Robi,” Mahmud said.
The government is looking into if they have legal permission to upload such content; he said adding that the contents will be pulled down if they don’t have legal permission.
Moreover, the government will take action as they are punishable offence as per Pornography Act even if they have legal approval, said the minister.
