To undertake conversation and promote collaboration between industry and academia Industry Application Society (IAS) Summit 2018 was held at Robi Corporate Office. Organized by IEEE Industry Application Society Bangladesh Chapter in association with IEEE Bangladesh Section this summit was held on November 24, 2018.
The event started with the inaugural speech of Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section and Chair, IEEE Industry Application Society Bangladesh Chapter.
In her speech, she talked about the objective of IEEE Industry Application Society from the broader global perspective and how to achieve this objective in the local perspective. She said, “Industry-Academia Collaboration and the role industry people can play to inspire current students to prepare for the fast changing 21st century industry environment”.
Also, industry experts are requested by her to inspire their peer colleagues to join the platform of IEEE IAS platform thus enhancing the industry membership of IEEE Bangladesh section. She has highlighted different travel grant programs, student-Faculty grant, WiE supports, Robotics, humanitarian, design contests for industry applications and also individual and Group awards for the contributions.
After the inaugural speech, Executive Engineer of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Mr. Sahbun Noor put emphasis on the new ideas and the ways government is considering to change the power system in Bangladesh.
Attending the program, Safayetul Wahab Chowdhury, Head of R&D Energypac Engineering Limited talked about various new transformer technologies. He said, “EnergyPac is currently bringing to the country and the current market standing of EnergyPac, not only in the local market but as a global player altogether”.
Prof. Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah Professor, Dept. of EEE, BUET Director, Institute of Nuclear Power Engineering, BUET, gave his presentation titled “Demystifying Nuclear Energy in Bangladesh”. He talked in his presentation about the energy crisis in Bangladesh and how potential solutions of the crisis around the world are failing short and the necessity of nuclear energy.
Shahriar Ibne Zaman Head of Digital & Adjacent Business Systems, Planning, Technology, Grameenphone told about API and its use to connect in the current world of Internet of Things (IoT).
Robi Axiata Limited Head of Information Technology Asif Naimur Rashid, Banglalion CTO Ekhlas Uddin Ahmed were also present at the summit with other delegates and spoke regarding the potentiality of engineering sector in Bangladesh.
Anamika Bhakta, Vice President, Technical Regulation, Regulatory Affairs at Robi Axiata Ltd, Chair of IEEE Women In Engineering Affinity Group Bangladesh Chapter and Irtiza Haque, Senior System Engineer at Grameenphone, Industrial Activities Coordinator of IEEE Women In Engineering Affinity Group Bangladesh Chapter acted as the moderator of the event.
