First mobile tower built under Banglalink-Summit agreement goes live

Banglalink in association with Summit Towers Limited (STL) has activated its first mobile tower in the country built under the agreement between the two parties. Located in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, it is one of the 259 towers Summit Towers Limited (STL) will set up for Banglalink according to the agreement.

BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission) handed over the telecom tower sharing licenses to four Tower companies back in 2018 for allowing them to build mobile towers and share those with telecom operators in exchange for service fees.

Md Jahurul Haque, Chairman, BTRC said,BTRC is always interested in exploring the possibilities of new regulatory frameworks for enabling telecom operators to serve their customers better. I am hopeful that they will be able to enhance their quality of services further by utilizing the TowerCo regime.”

Pierre Boutros Obeid, Chief Technology Officer, Banglalink said, “The activation of this first mobile tower under the new Towerco regime is a very important milestone for Banglalink, as it marks the beginning of a new expansion of our network that will allow more people to gain access to the fastest 4G network in the country as measured by Ookla. We believe that our agreement with Summit will play a key role in our future network expansion plan for Banglalink to remain at the forefront in terms of the quality of service.”

Md. Arif Al Islam, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Summit Communications Ltd. said, “We are really proud of becoming the first tower company to start tower services with an approved Service Level Agreement under the new TowerCo regime. Summit Group has been working towards infrastructure development of the country over the last four decades and its entrance in telecom infrastructure a decade ago is fulfilled by fiber, gateway and now tower being added in the portfolio. It will be a great opportunity for us to contribute to the forthcoming 5G rollout. We appreciate Banglalink’s welcoming attitude to new tower cos and for putting their trust in us. We are committed to providing the best possible services to Banglalink to strengthen this partnership forward.”

Banglalink is committed to serving its customers leveraging the latest facilities.
