BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir recently led a meeting of a three-member delegation with Minister for Planning MA Mannan.
During the meeting, BASIS delegation discussed in detail the implementation of BASIS’ recommendations for prioritizing to local companies in the procurement of software and IT services in the government procurement policy and to follow the new revised PPR template in inviting tenders in this sector.
Syed Almas Kabir said, “BASIS over the past few years has been recommending the government procurement policy to formulate new templates for the local software and IT services sector in the country with priority and to invite tenders for this sector.
As per that, the revised template of PPR for Software and IT Services (ITES) sector has been sent to CPTU after being inspected by Information and Communication Technology Division recently”.
Kabir also requested the Planning Minister to implement the template with final approval.
BASIS President also demanded that the tender conditions be relaxed through negotiations with the donors so that local software companies can participate in the tender for the purchase of software and software services for any project run with the help of donors.
Moreover, he sought the sincere cooperation of the planning minister in creating new job opportunities for local software companies in the government’s e-Governance projects to overcome the business recession caused by the Corona epidemic.
MA Mannan spoke to the occasion and rendered necessary instructions to Additional Secretary and Acting Director Generalof CPTU and Secretary, IMED to take necessary steps to resolve the issues expeditiously.
At the same time, he assured the overall cooperation of the Ministry of Planning to maintain a conducive business environment for the local IT sector.
